Whilst Manchester City chase the Premier League title, a number of their players have been impressing away from the Etihad this season.

With Pep Guardiola’s preference for working with a small squad, multiple players were deemed surplus to requirements in Manchester this summer. Various players that remain on City’s books were sent out on loan for the 2025/26 season.

Jack Grealish has looked rejuvenated at Everton, whilst a number of youngsters have seem to have taken a step forward.

Here is a round-up of City’s players that are currently out on loan:

It was evident that Grealish’s time at the Etihad had come to an end when he was left out of the squad for the FIFA Club World Cup. After a number of deals failed to materialise, the Englishman eventually joined Everton on loan.

The 30-year-old hit the ground running at the new Hill Dickinson Stadium and was named as the Premier League’s Player of the Month in August. Following two seasons where he failed to surpass four goals and assists in the league, he had already recorded five by early October.

With cries for Grealish’s return to the England squad, Guardiola even hinted at a possible return for the star. “After what happens, maybe Manchester City will want him back,” said the Spaniard.

However, since then, both his and Everton’s form has dipped slightly. The former £100m man has not recorded a goal or an assist since the October international break, although he has still had a positive influence on the team. The Toffees have the option to sign the attacker permanently for £50m at the end of the season.

Manuel Akanji

Another player shown the exit during an overhaul of City’s squad in the summer was Manuel Akanji. The Switzerland international joined Inter Milan on a season-long loan deal for a €1m fee, with an option to be made permanent for £13m.

The 30-year-old has quickly established himself with the Italians, playing every minute in Serie A since landing in Milan. Inter are currently leading the league, and their option to sign Akanji will become an obligation should they claim the title.

Vitor Reis

Vitor Reis arrived at the Etihad from Palmeiras for £30m last January. The 19-year-old played just one Premier League minute and appeared in the FA Cup twice for City last season. New to Europe and at such a young age, the centre-back has now been sent to Girona to gain experience.

The Brazilian is gaining valuable experience in the Spanish top flight, where he has quickly established himself as a starter. The defender’s talent and potential is evident, and he is technically excellent with the ball at his feet. However, some defensive vulnerabilities have been exposed in Spain. These are natural as he continues his adaptation to European football and his development as a player.

Claudio Echeverri

Another South American who landed at the Etihad last winter, Claudio Echeverri had a strange experience at City. Left out of the squad for months, the Argentine came on to make his debut in the FA Cup final – and looked lively. Another substitute appearance in the league followed, but he too has been sent on loan for this campaign.

Whilst the club hoped he would also join Girona, the player instead chose to join Bayer Leverkusen. The move did not start well, with the 19-year-old confined to the bench in the opening months of the season. However, in recent weeks he has been awarded two Champions League starts and a Bundesliga start, as he hopes to establish himself. As of yet it has not been a fruitful loan spell, but there is still time for that to change.

Sverre Nypan

City fought off interest from a number of Premier League rivals to land Sverre Nypan at the start of the summer. The 18-year-old was subsequently sent straight out on loan to Middlesbrough.

The Norwegian is still a very raw talent, and has largely been utilised off the bench in the Championship. His performances have been impactful though and he was rewarded with his first senior international cap in October.

Jumah Bah

Another recent signing, City snapped up Jumah Bah in January, just halfway into his first professional season. 18 at the time, the centre-back was sent straight out on loan to Lens in France.

This season the Sierra Leone star is again playing in Ligue 1, this time with Nice. The 19-year-old has already made 14 appearances this season, across the league and Europa League. However, Nice have not had the best start to the season and Bah has been part of just one clean sheet.

Jahmai Simpson-Pusey

Jahmai Simpson-Pusey also had his debut campaign last season. Rushed from the academy into the first-team during City’s injury crisis last season, the young defender went on to make six appearances. With Guardiola’s side back to full strength, the 20-year-old has now joined Celtic on a season-long loan.

However, it is a loan spell that has certainly not gone to plan so far. Celtic have been in a state of chaos, with manager Brendan Rodgers recently departing. This environment has not been beneficial to the defender but it has been made worse by his lack of opportunities. Simpson-Pusey finally made his debut last Sunday, over four months after joining.

Max Alleyne

Alleyne is another player from City’s academy that has headed out on loan this season. The young defender has joined Watford in the Championship.

After an impressive start with the Hornets, the 20-year-old was called up to the England U21 squad for the first time. He has since endured a period on the bench for Watford, although he did start their most recent game.

Divin Mubama

Also on loan in the Championship and representing England at U21 level, Divin Mubama is currently with Stoke City. The 21-year-old moved to the Etihad last summer after his contract with West Ham expired.

The Potters are flying high in the second division and Mubama is certainly playing his role in their success. The young forward’s best performance undoubtedly came against Bristol City, where he netted a hat-trick and recorded an assist. He has impressed this season as he continues his development in a first-team environment.
