Real Madrid on Tuesday moved another step closer to taking over ownership of an altogether noteworthy La Liga record.

Los Blancos were of course back in action last night, in a meeting with Deportivo Alavés.

When all was said and done, Carlo Ancelotti’s troops emerged on the right side of a 3-2 result, owing to goals on the part of all of Lucas Vázquez, Kylian Mbappé and Rodrygo.

In the process, Real Madrid extended their unbeaten stretch across the La Liga season to date to seven fixtures.

This streak, though, actually spans back much, much further.

All told, the capital giants have not fallen to a single defeat in any of their last 39 outings in the Spanish top-flight.

This marks the 2nd-longest unbeaten run in the competition’s history, bettered only by Clásico rivals Barcelona back in 2018.

So, just how far off the record set by the Blaugrana do Real Madrid now sit?

As per statisticians Opta, Los Merengues need to see out their next four La Liga fixtures without defeat to equal their arch rivals, whilst one match more would see Real set a new all-time record.
