Flamengo set a club record in 2026 with nine World Cup call-ups, the tournament starts on 11 June. According to Globo.com, four of their players went to Qatar in 2022, and this is how they fared.

Arrascaeta reached Qatar with a pubalgia after a season capped by the Libertadores and Copa do Brasil. Benched against South Korea and Portugal, he started versus Ghana, scored both in a 2-0 win and was player of the match. He became Flamengo’s first since Zico in 1982 to score twice in a World Cup game, but Uruguay still went out in the groups.

Signed only months before the finals, Varela was still bedding in at Flamengo when Uruguay called. After a late cameo in the 0-0 draw with South Korea, he started and completed 90 minutes against Portugal and Ghana, finishing as the Flamengo player with most minutes at the tournament.

Pedro travelled after his best season but started behind Richarlison. He came on in extra time in the quarter-final with Croatia and converted his penalty in the shootout, but Brazil were beaten.

Everton Ribeiro featured through most of Brazil’s cycle under Tite, including the 2021 Copa América, and arrived as a creative option. He made one appearance, playing 35 minutes in the 1-0 group defeat to Cameroon. Like Pedro, he saw Brazil exit to Croatia in the last eight.
