Liverpool have been on a rollercoaster Champions League campaign this season.

The excitement generated by a victory over Real Madrid did not last long as they were humbled by PSV Eindhoven in their next outing.

It was Liverpool’s third home defeat by three goals or more this season, something which has not happened since 1929-30,

There have been a few signs of Liverpool returning to their old selves. Since their historic defeat to PSV, they’ve been unbeaten in three games. But even that run came with caveats.

A comprehensive 2-0 win at West Ham United hinted at a potential resurgence, but it has quickly faded with disappointing draws against Sunderland and Leeds United.

Saturday’s six-goal thriller at Elland Road drove a dagger through the heart of Liverpool fans as they conceded a last-minute equaliser.

But no one could have predicted what happened later as unused substitute Mohamed Salah stole the headlines with an extraordinary rant claiming that the club had ‘thrown him under the bus’.

Unsurprisingly, he has been left out of the squad to face Inter Milan, and it will be intriguing to see how Liverpool fare without him.

Salah’s omission has caught the headlines, but manager Arne Slot could still raise a few eyebrows as he makes four changes to the side that drew with Leeds.

Alisson hardly justified his enormous wages at the weekend, so Giorgio Mamardashvilli could be given a chance in goal.

Ibrahima Konate has been in the firing line recently and could make way for Joe Gomez to partner Virgil van Dijk at centre-back.

Andrew Robertson will likely come in for Milos Kerkez while Conor Bradley retains his spot at right back.

Ryan Gravenberch has formed a new partnership with Curtis Jones in midfield, while Dominik Szoboszlai and Florian Wirtz should also keep their places.

Hugo Ekitike may be shifted to the left flank in place of Cody Gakpo to accommodate striker Alexander Isak.
