Mohamed Salah will be the main talking point when Liverpool host Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield in what promises to be an entertaining Premier League clash on Saturday afternoon.
Liverpool are keen to get back to winning ways after dropping points in a frustrating draw with Leeds United last weekend.
The Reds seem to have turned a corner since their woeful run of three wins from 12 games across all competitions.
Since losing 4-1 to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League, Liverpool have put together a run of four games without defeat, most recently downing Inter Milan 1-0 in Europe.
However, they’ve only taken five points from the last nine available, capping a three-match unbeaten streak with a gut-wrenching 3-3 draw with Leeds.
Getting back to winning ways in the Premier League will be their primary concern, yet much of the focus remains on Salah, whose future at the club has become a huge debate.
Reports of tension between the forward and head coach Arne Slot have only added to the noise, with questions growing louder about whether Salah’s time at Anfield could be nearing its end.
On the pitch, the numbers show a dip from the Egyptian’s usual high standards. He is averaging fewer shots, fewer efforts on target, and fewer touches in the box than at any other point in his Liverpool career.
But Liverpool’s problems are beyond Salah. They’ve won just two of their last ten Premier League games and will take on Brighton in 10th place and 10 points off league leaders Arsenal.
Slot will likely make up to three changes for the Brighton clash with Liverpool, missing at least seven players, including joint-second top scorer Cody Gakpo.
Alisson will likely retain his place in goal, but Milos Kerkez and Conor Bradley are poised to return to the XI, while Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate continue their partnership at centre-back.
Ryan Gravenberch, Curtis Jones, and Alexis Mac Allister ran the midfield in midweek and should keep their place in the line-up.
Gakpo’s absence opens the door for Florian Wirtz to return to the XI. Dominik Szoboszlai should continue in place of the exiled Salah, while Hugo Ekitike leads the line.
