Manchester City officials could receive a more minimal fee for Kyle Walker from Burnley than the £5 million that has been reported around his now-confirmed deal.
The England international saw his exit from the Etihad Stadium announced earlier this week having initiated the phasing out process from Pep Guardiola’s side during the January transfer window of last season.
Amid widespread difficulties for City across competitions, Walker took the decision to seek out a new challenge in his career, ultimately forcing a loan move to AC Milan until the end of the campaign and dropping the captain’s armband in the North-West of England.
However, having vastly underperformed in Italian football and enduring an injury during the final weeks of his San Siro stay, AC Milan officials took the decision not to activate their buy-option on the veteran defender, believed to be worth around €5 million.
That move from the Italian side had left Kyle Walker and his representatives scrambling for options during the off-season, and having been left out of City’s squad list at the FIFA Club World Cup, additional time to find a solution was granted.
And thankfully for Walker and his ambitions of remaining at the very summit of European football, the Englishman will be competing in the Premier League during the forthcoming season as he battles with newly-promoted side Burnley.
Now, according to the reporting of MailSport this week, it has been detailed that the full fee agreed by Burnley with City is contingent on Kyle Walker playing in 70 per cent of Scott Parker’s team’s games and the Turf Moor club staying in the Premier League this season.
It remains to be seen whether Manchester City will re-enter the market this summer for a replacement for Walker, with links strongest to Newcastle United’s Tino Livramento after his stellar rise under Eddie Howe.
Unfortunately for the likes of sporting director Hugo Viana, the feeling at present is that the North-East club will stand firm on their stance of not selling the England Under-21 international, even despite City’s intention on spending as much as £65 million on the player.
Livramento recently won the UEFA Under-21 European Championship with Manchester City’s James McAtee, starring in a versatile full-back role that will no doubt have impressed supporters of all club’s and only heightened his valuation.
