Brownhill has been linked with a potential move to the Toffees after a remarkable season

After a stellar campaign on both an individual and collective level, Josh Brownhill's long-term future with Burnley remains very much up in the air heading into the off-season.

The Clarets earned promotion to the Premier League at the first time of asking under Scott Parker, becoming the first of two teams to hit 100 points in the same division across a league season in English football, although they were unable to steal the Championship title from Leeds United's grasp on the final day.

Regardless, the 29-year-old and club captain at Turf Moor has been the grateful recipient of immense praise this term, as his tally of 18 goals and six assists from midfield saw him responsible for approximately 35% of the 69 goals scored by his side in some form.

Unsurprisingly, such a feat and uncertainty surrounding his contract situation in East Lancashire, which Parker has remained tight-lipped on, has led to interest from clubs already in the top-flight, with Everton now joining West Ham United in the chase for the midfield maestro.

Next season represents a new era for the blue half of Merseyside too, with David Moyes set to lead the Toffees into their 52,888-capacity stadium at Bramley Moore Dock in August, following on from last December's takeover by the Friedkin Group.

With that in mind, Football League World explores the potential financial impact a move to Everton would have, relative to his current earnings and the salaries his potential midfield colleagues are on at this moment in time.

According to ESTIMATED figures from Capology, Brownhill is said to be taking home a weekly sum of £45,000 per week, which equates to £2,340,000 across the length of a season.

This is the former Bristol City man's third wage hike with the North West club, having previously collected wages of £35,000 and £40,000 per week since his £9m move from Ashton Gate in January 2020.

Unsurprisingly, such is his importance to the club after making 211 appearances in the last five-and-a-half years, he is also the top earner on Alan Pace's payroll, with his weekly figure said to be £5,000 in front of midfield partner Josh Cullen, as the side preparing for a return to the top-flight had the second-highest wage bill in the Championship behind Leeds.

But, with Moyes keen to bolster his own midfield ranks ahead of the Hammers, how would such a figure compare to the likes of Abdoulaye Doucoure, who is also out-of-contract as Everton's 133-year association with Goodison Park draws to a close in the coming weeks.

It will come to the surprise of hardly anybody that the Merseyside outfit's financial standpoint is streets ahead of Burnley, as they are said to have the 10th-highest wage bill in the top-flight.

Approximately £19.2m of the overall £73.78m sum across the season is said to come from those in the midfield department, although the aforementioned Doucoure is also believed to be the club's highest earner with a weekly wage of £130,000.

Despite enjoying a fine season, it would take some negotiation for Brownhill to get anywhere near such figures, with his current wage in between that of Orel Mangala (£50,000 per week) and former Manchester United man, James Garner (£30,000).

Any such move would likely see Brownhill collect a salary in the region of Mangala's, with a pay rise sure to be expected if the Clarets star joins Moyes' side.

However, those who have watched his array of strong performances which culminated with two goals against the Lions - ending the season as the second-tier's joint-second top scorer alongside Borja Sainz - will hope that he remains a Claret for the long-term, although they are treading a fine line with less than two months until the season officially comes to an end.
