Vasco are due about 1.4 million euros (R$ 8.2 million) from Andrey Santos’ move to Manchester United, but the money will not arrive immediately because it is paid via FIFA’s solidarity mechanism.

According to Globo.com, Chelsea have agreed a 56 million euros (R$ 329 million) sale, with Vasco entitled to roughly 2.5% of that amount. The club are not banking on the funds for signings in this window.

United have announced the Brazilian midfielder. He has signed a five-year contract, with an option of a further year.

Santos spent his formative years at São Januário, covering the seasons from his 12th to 18th birthdays, which underpin the solidarity share. He first joined Vasco as a child.

At his unveiling he thanked Vasco, recalling 12 years at the club and the support it gave him and his family.

Santos, 22, arrives to replace Casemiro, who has left United. Chelsea signed him in 2023, then loaned him to Forest and Strasbourg before using him regularly last season.

He was on Carlo Ancelotti’s preliminary list for the World Cup and featured in Brazil’s March friendlies, but did not make the final squad. He has six senior caps.
