The influence of manufacturer Nike could play a key role in aiding the efforts of La Liga giants Barcelona to secure a prominent summer signing.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Nico Williams as the player in question.

The name of wide-man Williams has of course positioned itself centre stage in the headlines across all of Spain for some time now.

This comes amid the widespread knowledge that the youngster, fresh off a stellar campaign at Euro 2024 with Spain, has been identified as a priority transfer target on the part of Barcelona.

The Blaugrana have been locked in negotiations with Williams and his entourage for several weeks now, with a view to activating the release clause in the player’s Athletic Club contract.

And yet, to date, Deco and co. have not received the definitive ‘yes’ which they so crave.

All of a Barca persuasion will therefore no doubt be interested to hear that their side could yet be afforded a helping hand in their Nico pursuit, by none other than the club’s kit manufacturer.

As per Sport:

‘The North American company believes that the arrival of the Athletic Club footballer to Barça would be the perfect combination to relaunch both the media impact of the youngest of the Williams brothers and the impact of Nike on the Blaugrana club itself.’

For context, Nico himself is signed to a partnership agreement with Nike.

It is therefore suggested that, in the case of the 22-year-old penning terms at the Camp Nou, his earnings from the Oregon-based company would be bumped up significantly:

‘The player himself would improve his emoluments with Nike if he plays for the Blaugrana, which would mean extra income on top of the extra income that the Catalan club is proposing to get him to say “yes”.

With the winger continuing to keep his cards close to his chest when it comes to his future, the ball, as they say, is entirely in Williams’ court.
