Thiago Almada remains a priority target for Flamengo this window, but his focus is with Argentina at the World Cup. According to Coluna Do Fla, Flamengo have reached an agreement with the midfielder, though the deal is far from straightforward.
Almada started Argentina’s opening wins over Algeria and Austria. For the final group match Lionel Scaloni rotated heavily, and the playmaker came on in the second half.
In the round of 32 he was in the starting XI for victory against Cape Verde. He did not feature in the round of 16 versus Egypt. In the quarter-final with Switzerland he came on late and helped create the final goal.
Against England in the semi-final he stayed on the bench as Argentina came from behind to win 2-1. They face Spain in Sunday’s final in New Jersey, with kick-off at 16:00 Brasília time.
The negotiation has several layers and is not considered simple. Despite a yes from the player’s camp, Flamengo still face competition from River Plate and from Europe, which is Almada’s preferred destination.
Almada, 25, plays for Atlético de Madrid. He came through Vélez Sarsfield and moved to Atlanta United in 2022. In 2024 he featured for Botafogo, winning the Brasileirão and the Libertadores, then switched to Lyon under John Textor before Atlético bought him in July 2025.
