Chelsea return to action with a pre-season friendly against Bayer Leverkusen at Stamford Bridge tonight.

Enzo Maresca’s side head into the new season with confidence after a successful summer. Chelsea were crowned FIFA Club World Cup winners with an impressive 3-0 victory over European champions Paris Saint-Germain in the final.

After lifting that trophy and the Europa Conference League, alongside securing Champions League qualification, Chelsea are optimistic ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Opponents Bayer Leverkusen are preparing for their DFB-Pokal opener next Friday. The German side have had a summer of overhaul, with head coach Xabi Alonso leaving for Real Madrid and key players in Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Granit Xhaka and Jonathan Tah all departing.

Leverkusen are now under the management of former Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag, who will be keen to prove a point on his return to England.
