New York City FC will return to Citi Field for the first time this season after pausing for the international break. The Pigeons are coming off a loss to Inter Miami CF, which was their first loss of the 2026 campaign. They still played well against the Herons and could have earned at least a point. More importantly, they have had a good start to the year. Hence, the team will want to improve the 3-1-1 record when they host St. Louis City SC.
The two teams only met once in a meeting that saw NYCFC lose on the road in 2024. They have also played two preseason friendlies that ended in a draw and a loss. The brief history is not in favor of the Boys in Blue. However, St. Louis is not having the best start to the season. They have a 1-3-1 record and sit in 13th place in the Western Conference. Now, they did pick up their first win in their last match, so perhaps that will cause a spark.
At the same time, NYCFC has been a wonderful surprise with how they are playing so far in 2026. The Queens team, on paper, should end the evening with a win. But last season is not that far away, and fans will recall that the Pigeons sometimes won games they were not expected to and lost to some teams they should have beaten. That is why the players must treat this like they are playing top teams like Miami and Los Angeles FC.
The weekend matchup against St. Louis will be an interesting watch. NYCFC fans will hopefully see a show that is worth putting on TV or paying for the tickets at Citi Field.
