Arsenal travel to League One Port Vale tonight in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

The Gunners reached the semi-final of the competition last season, losing out to eventual winners Newcastle, and will be hoping for another good run this campaign.

Recent form

Port Vale have picked up wins in their last two games, beating Mansfield 2-1 on Saturday and Exeter City 2-0 the week before. They were their only two wins in the first nine games of the League One season, however.

Arsenal equalised late on to draw 1-1 with Manchester City on Sunday and are unbeaten in the last three games.

Port Vale boss Darren Moore: “It’s a wonderful game for us all connected with the football club. It’s a game that forces you, whatever area you’re in, to be your best.

“It’s the games that, every week, we’re challenging ourselves to be in these situations where where want to be at our best.”

Mikel Arteta on the criticism of his team selection against Man City: “I don’t read it, but he (the press officer) does tell me a little bit what the narrative is around it.

“If you tell me that this is the main one, if I’m surprised, I would be extremely surprised, with my knowledge and my know-how and how I analyse a football game because it was impossible for somebody to predict such a dominance from Arsenal throughout 96 minutes because it never happened in 17 years of Pep as a manager.”
