Portugal are set to face the Democratic Republic of Congo in their opening match of the 2026 World Cup.
If Cristiano Ronaldo takes to the stage, he will become just the second player to compete in six World Cups after Lionel Messi becae the first.

Portugal won both their World Cup warm-up matches 2-1. Those ties were against Nigeria and Chile.
Congo also played Chile in a World Cup warm up match, but were beaten 2-1, they were also held to a draw by Denmark.
Ahead of the clash Roberto Martinez hinted that this World Cup would be the last tournament he is in charge of this Portugal side.
“It’s not news. We’ve talked about this many times in Portugal”, Martinez said about the reports of his departure after the World Cup. “Maybe it’s new elsewhere, but in Portugal we’ve discussed it a lot already. The focus remains continuing the work we’ve done over the last three and a half years.”
