Recent form

Real Madrid came into this Club World Cup campaign after their first trophyless season in four years. Their first Club World Cup match ended in a 1-1 draw against Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal with Federico Valverde missing a late penalty to win the match. The Spanish side will be looking to get their tournament back on track with a win.

Pachuca lost their first game of the Club World Cup against Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg 2-1. They have also only won one of their last five competitive fixtures so the match against Real Madrid will be a tough test.

What’s been said?

Despite being the favourites, Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso recognises the threat that the Pachuca side poses the Spanish side as they look to adapt to his new system.

“We have many ideas, but we have to choose the right ones, that’s what can make us improve sooner.

“I saw the friendly against Al Ahly, and they could have easily drawn against Salzburg too.

“They have different players who have come together for the Club World Cup, but they are a daring team with good footwork.”

Real Madrid beat Pachuca 3-0 in the Club World Cup in December last year and former West Bromwich Albion striker Salomon Rondon belives Pachuca are ready to bounce back from that defeat.

“We already know what it’s like to face Real Madrid, although this time we won’t be as tired as in the Intercontinental final.”
