The Reds have had many struggles in the Premier League this season as they sit in 14th place. Despite this, they remain unbeaten in Europe. After drawing their first three Europa League games with Erik ten Hag in charge, United went on to win the next five.

Here’s what you need to know ahead of the clash…

Kick-off time

5.45pm GMT

How to watch in the UK

TNT Sports 1 or streaming on Discovery+

Injuries and doubts

Real Sociedad: Jon Pacheco (out), Arsen Zakharyan (out), Alvaro Odriozola (out)

All of the Spanish side’s key players are fit and available, they are only missing some of their substitutes.

Man United: Lisandro Martinez (out), Luke Shaw (out), Mason Mount (out), Kobbie Mainoo (out), Amad Diallo (out), Jonny Evans (out), Chido Obi (ineligible), Toby Collyer (doubt), Harry Maguire (doubt), Manuel Ugarte (doubt)

Man United have a huge injury list which has only been made worse by the absence of Harry Maguire and Manuel Ugarte from their training. Ruben Amorim will not have many options with his severely depleted squad.

Predicted line-ups

Real Sociedad (4-1-4-1): Remiro; Aramburu, Zubeldia, Aguerd, Munoz; Zubimendi; Kubo, Mendez, Sucic, Gomez; Oyarzabal

Man United (3-4-2-1): Onana; Mazraoui, De Ligt, Yoro; Dalot, Ugarte, Fernandes, Dorgu; Zirkzee, Garnacho; Hojlund

Recent form

Real Sociedad have not been in great form the season. The Basque side have lost more times than they have won in La Liga and occupy 9th place in the division. Their last two outings have seen them suffer defeats to Real Madrid and Barcelona. They will look to bounce back against a vulnerable United side.

Man United’s torrid time has been well-documented this season. Amorim has been in charge for more than three months now but the team are still lacking goal threat and are fragile defensively. Winning the Europa League is the only route that the Reds can take to secure European football for next season. Amorim has won all four of his European matches since taking the reins at Old Trafford and he will hope that form continues.

What’s been said?

Real Sociedad manager Imanol Alguacil dismissed the struggles of Manchester United: “They are a great team in Europe, with a great history, and that we are able to face them these years is a positive thing. They have a great team with a great coach.

“In the league they are not having results but in play they are doing things well, different. Tomorrow I expect a tough opponent – not because of their history, but because of their players. It will be very difficult and we will have to give everything to compete.”

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim on the things more important than the Europa League: “I’ve been here for three months, that is clear. But I understand it’s a massive difference in our season. Especially because we are out of the cups, and in a bad position in the league.

“There are a lot more important things than winning cups at this moment. That is my feeling. But I understand that winning the Europa League can change everything for us next season.”
