Howe backs Newcastle striker Woltemade to get even better | OneFootball

Eddie Howe has said Nick Woltemade can get even better despite an impressive start to his career at Newcastle.

The record signing netted his sixth goal of the campaign against Tottenham in midweek, as the Magpies booked their place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

Woltemade’s immediate impact has been welcome at Newcastle, with fellow recruit Yoane Wissa yet to debut after an injury-hit start to the season.

Ahead of this weekend’s clash with West Ham, Howe praised the Germany international as ‘first class’ but believes there is more to come. He called on his Newcastle side to ‘bring out more’ in 23-year-old’s game.

“We are really pleased with Nick. On and off the pitch he has been first class,” Howe said.

“The way he has conducted himself, the way he has handled the move, the way he has embraced his team-mates.

“His team ethics are excellent. He’s got an ability to score goals, an ability to be in the right position. Technically he’s very good.

“We still have to bring out more in his game and help him in any way we can, but the early signs are really positive.

“His challenge is consistency and long-term success because teams will obviously work out plans for him and he’s got to continue to find a way to score goals.”
