Huddersfield Town are lining up a loan for Sunderland prospect Matty Young, while Wrexham and Millwall are tracking fellow goalkeeper Anthony Patterson.
According to Sunderland Echo, Huddersfield plan to take the 19-year-old on loan for 2026-27, with Sunderland vetting destinations and the Terriers expected to get the nod. The report adds that Wrexham have joined Millwall in showing interest in Patterson, who is valued at around £8m to £10m, with loan approaches mooted despite that price.
Young is highly rated at the Stadium of Light and has already gained senior experience. After a stint with Darlington, he enjoyed two productive loans at Salford City in League Two and played as Salford reached last season’s play-off final, featuring at Wembley in a 3-0 defeat to Notts County.
The England youth international has caps at under-18, under-19 and under-20 level and received an under-21 call-up last year. Huddersfield previously borrowed Owen Goodman from Crystal Palace to compete with Lee Nicholls before a mid-season switch to Barnsley. Their current goalkeepers are Nicholls, Jak Alnwick, Jacob Chapman and Nik Tzanev.
Patterson is understood to favour a permanent move this summer. Wrexham’s pursuit could affect Arthur Okonkwo, with suggestions the Welsh club may let last season’s goalkeeper depart if they land Patterson.
