Manchester City get their latest edition of the Carabao Cup underway this week with a trip to face League One side Huddersfield Town at the Accu Stadium on Wednesday.
Pep Guardiola’s side come into the contest against EFL opposition in a strong run of form, having dismissed of Manchester United and Napoli in back-to-back victories without conceding a goal, before securing themselves a point on the road at Arsenal.
Erling Haaland is continuing to go from strength to strength this season with seven goals to his name in the sky blue shirt, while Abdukodir Khusanov is proving to be arguably the club’s most dependable right-back, alongside exciting showings from Phil Foden and Jeremy Doku.
The outing at the Emirates Stadium last time out showed a different side to Manchester City’s abilities tactically, scoring an opening goal inside 10 minutes via a lightning fast counter-attack, before lying deep and attempting to hold on to three points with a nine-man defence.
As for Wednesday night’s opposition in Huddersfield Town, the Terriers have progressed through the opening two rounds of the competition via penalty shoot out victories against Leicester City at home and Sunderland away.

Match Officials: Michael Salisbury to referee Huddersfield Town vs Manchester City
The EFL have confirmed this week that Michael Salisbury has been appointed into the role of on-field match referee for the clash between Huddersfield Town and Manchester City.

For the hosts, manager Lee Grant has confirmed the side will be without midfielder Herbie Kane for an extended period of time owing to a groin injury, while forward Ruben Roosken has avoided concussion following a recent head injury.
There have been a number of alterations to Manchester City’s fitness and injury list following the 1-1 draw against Arsenal on Sunday evening, with John Stones returning to action following a muscular problem.
Despite the good news surrounding the England international, Abdukodir Khusanov was forced off at the half-time interval having sustained a foot injury in the first-half of the Emirates Stadium clash, although the full extent of the problem remains unknown.
All remaining sidelined and entirely ruled out for the foreseeable are left-sided full-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki, and versatile striking option Omar Marmoush.
Elsewhere, both Mateo Kovacic and Kalvin Phillips are back in training for Manchester City and are closing in on their respective returns to action, although it remains to be seen whether the Carabao Cup third round clash has come a little too soon for either midfielder.

“It will be a mix of first-team and Academy players to play tomorrow, because the priority is Burnley, Monaco, and Brentford… We will try to compete and go through!”
Pep Guardiola on Kalvin Phillips: “Well, today he is in London because he will be a father for the second time! So this is the future for Kalvin, right now! He’s coming back, training with us. We’ll see what happens.
“Of course, he’s coming from an injury, from surgery, and now has to make training sessions and training sessions, and maybe some minutes in games!”
Huddersfield Town and Manchester City have faced each other a total of 81 times across competitions in their long-standing histories, with 29 of those meetings ending in favour of the Maine Road and Etihad Stadium club.
30 meetings between the Terriers and Citizens have resulted in a draw, while Huddersfield have beaten Manchester City 22 times since their first victory over the club in December, 1921.
The last time Manchester City faced Huddersfield came in the FA Cup back in January 2024, and a contest that resulted in a 5-0 win for the hosts at the Etihad Stadium thanks to two goals from Phil Foden, as well as strikes from Julian Alvarez, Jeremy Doku, and an own goal.
The last meeting away to Huddersfield Town for City came in January 2019, when goals from Danilo, Raheem Sterling, and Leroy Sane secured all three points in a Premier League affair between the two clubs.
