Hugo Ekitike was carried off in tears during Liverpool’s Champions League quarter-final second leg against PSG on Tuesday night. According to Le Progres, the France forward appears to have suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon and should miss this summer’s World Cup.

The 23-year-old was hurt in the 28th minute after pushing off on his right leg, immediately clutching the lower part of his calf. He was replaced by Mohamed Salah.

Ekitike has 8 caps and 2 goals for the national team.

The World Cup runs from 11 June to 19 July in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

He is expected to undergo tests in the coming hours, and confirmation of his withdrawal could follow quickly. On the evidence of the footage, his chances of travelling with the Bleus appear minimal.
