Dutch football legend Ruud Gullit has joined the conversation about the manager job at Manchester United. The former legendary midfielder turned football pundit has surprisingly backed compatriot Robin Van Persie to become the manager of the Red Devils in the future.

At the moment, Michael Carrick is doing a wonderful job at Old Trafford, salvaging their season after the disastrous spell under Ruben Amorim.

Ruud Gullit backs Van Persie for the Man United job

Gullit believes Van Persie could become the manager of the Premier League side in the future.

‘It would be great if Robin van Persie became the manager of Manchester United in the future,’ Gullit said, as per comments relayed by Metro.

‘I definitely hope that happens at some point!

‘Robin is a great manager, but he’s struggling a little bit at Feyenoord at the moment. I feel like the expectations for him are very high because of the career he had, so he’s under the spotlight a lot more than other managers in the Eredivisie.

‘He’s under fire over here in Holland at the moment, but I hope he’s given time to rectify it and prove how good he is.

Red Devils have some big decisons to make

While the INEOS sporting directors continue their exhaustive vetting process, the endorsements for Van Persie from Gullit shows that the former Arsenal and Man United striker is making waves in the managerial circuit.

Yet, if Carrick maintains his phenomenal domestic resurgence, INEOS might not have a difficult decision to make regarding their next permanent manager.

Van Persie is still young as a manager and learning the trade but his fond memories of his time at Old Trafford and how much the fans adore him for his contributions in the 2013 Premier League winning campaign may turn into something substantial in the future regarding the Man United job in the future.

At the moment, the United job would be too big for him and they need someone experienced of cleaning the mess created in the last few years under Erik ten Hag and Amorim.
