Chris Wilder has been backed to restore Jesurun Rak-Sakyi for Sheffield United's upcoming trip to Middlesbrough, with the winger having featured from the bench in his side's 2-0 defeat at Leeds United on Friday evening.

The newly-relegated Blades had been the only team across the Championship with a nine-match unbeaten streak prior to their humbling defeat at Elland Road.

It was a blow, then, to lose by two goals away to not only a local rival but indeed a promotion one, and they have since been leapfrogged by Daniel Farke's men by virtue of goal difference.

Friday's showdown was always going to represent the stiffest test to date for the South Yorkshire outfit and they duly found out as much, with second half goals from Pascal Struijk and Mateo Joseph consigning them to their first defeat of the league season.

Wilder elected to change shape with a more pragmatic approach, trading his commonly-deployed 4-2-3-1 for a 5-3-2, which saw him return to the utilisation of wing-backs as Jamie Shackleton and Harrison Burrows started out wide ahead of Rak-Sakyi.

They will be urgent to get straight back to winning ways, with a trip to Michael Carrick's Middlesbrough awaiting on Wednesday night.

Chris Wilder told to start Jesurun Rak-Sakyi in Sheffield Utd's trip to Middlesbrough

Sheffield United may need to learn from their mistakes and focus on being front-footed against Middlesbrough, where three points would do them the world of good.

We asked our Blades fan pundit Jimmy what changes he believes Wilder should make at the Riverside Stadium, and he has urged him to reinstate Rak-Sakyi.

"At least one change from the Leeds game we should be making; get Jesurun Rak-Sakyi back in the starting eleven," Jimmy told Football League World.

"Jamie Shackleton can also come out for Alfie Gilchrist, but get Rak-Sakyi back in that team and go back to our normal formation for goodness sake.

"Wilder took a risk against Leeds, going to a 3-5-2 and more defensive. It did not work.

"Still a bit perplexed to what went on there, to be honest. He's the manager and we trust in him to get it right, and I think he will get it right.

"He'll restore us to our normal formation, I expect to see Rak-Sakyi and Gilchrist coming in and starting and fingers crossed for a better result this time out."

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi's start to the season at Sheffield Utd

It is easy to see just why Blades supporters are eager to see the most of Rak-Sakyi, who has enjoyed an impressive start to life in the Steel City after making a season-long loan switch from Crystal Palace in the summer.

According to reports, Rak-Sakyi had been courted by a number of Championship sides including Leeds, who had lodged a shock £15 million bid after raising more than £100 million in player sales as the likes of Crysencio Summerville, Archie Gray and Georginio Rutter all left the club.

It was widely viewed as something of a coup when the Blades managed to secure his services for the season, and that decision has been vindicated thus far.

The 22-year-old scored both goals to inspire his side to a routine 2-0 home victory over Luton Town before the international break and while no other strikes or assists have been added to the stat-line just yet, he has generally made a positive impression.

Rak-Sakyi's directness, speed and quality in one-v-one situations are all endearing qualities which have earmarked him as a real threat for second-tier full-backs, and you do get the feeling that there is plenty more to come from the talented wideman across the duration of the campaign.

With that in mind, then, returning his presence to the starting lineup in Teesside appears to be a no-brainer as far as Wilder is concerned.
