There was a big surprise on deadline day, as Werder announced the loan signing of Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface. ...his decision to join Werder: “It wasn’t a difficult decision to come to Werder. There were other options, but I wanted to stay in Germany and in the Bundesliga.”

...Senne Lynen’s influence: “Senne is a good friend of mine. We’ve spoken about Werder a lot which was a reason why I made the decision to come here.”

...the past few months in Leverkusen: “That’s just football. I moved from Belgium to Leverkusen and everything was going well, but it’s the case in football that things just happen when they happen; you can’t predict the future. A month ago I was given the opportunity to play my football elsewhere this season and now I am here. I have a strong mentality and I want to focus on what’s in front o me and just crack on.”

...the meaning behind choosing the number 44: “At Leverkusen I wore the number 22 shirt, as it was the day of the month on which my mum passed away. The number 22 wasn’t available here, so I chose the number 44 instead.”

...his playing style and his new teammates: “I’m not just a goalscorer, I also like to help make my teammates better and provide assists for them as well. I can’t get to know everyone here just yet as lots are away on international duty. I’m looking forward to getting out onto the pitch with them soon.”

... his Twitch stream on the day of his transfer: “I don’t go out much as I prefer to stay at home and stream or do something with friends. My work gets done on the pitch, so when I’m not playing I like to distract myself. I noticed there were lots of Werder fans commenting on my deadline day stream. The fans are lovely and welcoming, which is the most important thing for me as a footballer. Their support means a great deal to me.”
