There are few people hated more by FC Barcelona fans than the Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo. The former Real Madrid forward shared an intense rivalry with the Blaugrana legend Lionel Messi to be recognized as the best player in the world, and was also involved in several heated El Clasicos during his time in Spain.

He himself did not help matters with his gestures and expressions after scoring some of his goals in these classics and was sure to be booed and whistled by the Camp Nou crowd whenever he visited the Catalan stadium.

As SPORT has reported, Ronaldo appeared in an interview with Edu Aguirre and revealed his emotions about his role in these past El Clasicos and the whistles he received from the Blaugrana faithful.

The Portuguese superstar made it clear that his primary motivation was to silence the Cules: “I liked scoring goals at Camp Nou, it motivated me. They whistled at me, but I didn’t care about the insults—I just focused on scoring and silencing those people.”

The former Real Madrid superstar went on to reveal: “I liked scoring goals at the Camp Nou more than at the Bernabéu.”

There is little reason to doubt Ronaldo’s statements, keeping in view the heated nature of the rivalry between the two clubs. This rivalry was arguably at its climax when Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho were in charge of the two teams, and almost every match between these two sides was expected to involve fights and arguments.

His personal rivalry with the Barcelona star Lionel Messi would also have motivated the Portuguese forward to put up his best performances whenever he played against the Blaugranes, especially at the Camp Nou.

In spite of the hostility that he generates among the Cules, there is no doubt that the presence of Ronaldo and Messi on the pitch made El Clasicos even more intense and interesting.
