FC Nantes owner Waldemar Kita is seriously pessimistic regarding his club’s future as Les Canaris are heading straight to Ligue 2 in the coming weeks. Nantes, who were in the UEFA Europa League knockout stage only three years ago, are second-to-last in the Ligue 1 standings and 5 points adrift of 16th-placed Auxerre.
In a wide-ranging to Eurosport, Kita says it is impossible for him to enjoy owning FC Nantes. The 72-year-old businessman and his son – Franck, the club’s deputy CEO – are deeply unpopular among the club’s fanbase since their 2007 takeover. Kita’s projects of a new stadium and a new training ground have both been turned down by the City.
When asked why he doesn’t put up the club for sale, Kita answers he’s a professionnal who respects people with who he’s working. “I could abandon everyone first thing tomorrow, but that won’t be honest. I can’t continue working in this environment. If this keeps up, it will end up like Bordeaux.”
Girondins de Bordeaux – a French football giant – are currently in the fourth-tier after a couple of sporting and administrative relegations due to poor management.
