Terrible news for the Spurs manager
Tottenham manager Igor Tudor missed media duties after Sunday’s damaging defeat to Nottingham Forest due to a death in the family.
Standard Sport understands Tudor was informed shortly after full-time of the 3-0 home defeat that a member of his immediate family had passed away. He left the stadium immediately.
Assistant coach Bruno Saltor spoke to the media in Tudor’s absence, and faced plenty of questions after a hugely damaging defeat.
Confirming Tudor’s absence, Saltor said: “[He] doesn’t speak today as he’s dealing with a personal family issue. Obviously, it's a difficult moment for him”.
Spurs’ hopes of staying in the top flight this season took a heavy blow as they traded places with 17th-placed Forest, who won at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium thanks to goals from Igor Jesus, Morgan Gibbs-White and Taiwo Awoniyi.
The defeat leaves Tottenham just one point above the relegation zone with seven matches left to play.
Tudor’s side seemed to have turned a corner in the last week, after they battled for a deserved draw with Liverpool at Anfield and then beat Atletico Madrid 3-2 in the Champions League midweek.
But Tottenham’s hopes of remaining in the top flight plunged into severe doubt after their latest defeat, and the 47-year-old Croatian remains without a league win.
Spurs are now without a win in 13 top-flight games, which is their worst run in 91 years in a season in which they were relegated.
Tudor has not been helped by Spurs’ injury list, which had a new name added to it on Sunday as Mathys Tel hobbled off with just over an hour played.
Spurs are now without a game in three weeks due to the upcoming international break and being without FA Cup and Champions League commitments.
