Over the last few weeks, numerous personnel associated with Real Madrid have reacted to Jose Mourinho’s return as head coach. All of the current players asked have expressed their delight and excitement at the prospect of working under the Portuguese, and now one of his former players has had his say.
One of the most prominent players – not for the right reasons – during Mourinho’s first tenure in charge was Iker Casillas. The legendary goalkeeper fell out with the Portuguese during the latter’s final months at the Bernabeu first time around, although he’s put that somewhat behind him to wish him well for the season(s) to come, as per DAZN (via MD).
“Well, good. The club has decided that Jose has to come to Real Madrid and best of luck. Let’s hope he does well, which will be good for Real Madrid.”
Recently, Casillas also spoke on Mourinho – this time during an interview with Brazil icon Romario. On that occasion, he opened up on how things were in the latter stages of the 2012-13 season, when he was dropped from the side in favour of Diego Lopez.
“It was the most difficult period of my career because I was the captain. I had to talk to him constantly, deal with many issues, and, in the end, something that starts as a beautiful marriage, full of love and affection, turns into a complete divorce as time goes by.”
Mourinho is someone that has never been afraid to make big decisions, and that is undoubtedly one of the reasons why he was seen as the right man to return to Real Madrid at this time. The club are coming off the back of two seasons without a major trophy, and it’s clear that things need to move in a different direction if there is to be success again at the Bernabeu.
