After defeating Liverpool, the Aston Villa Women are taking a break from club action as the international break takes place. When WSL action resumes, however, Natalia Arroyo will hope to recapture the play that she witnessed from her side from the past weeks.
That win moved the club comfortably out of the drop zone and in control of their own destiny. With the three points comes a sense of security and an enhanced rallying point that AVWFC is on the right track. This message is only possible with good players sticking with the game plan and vision. And Noelle Maritz is a perfect example of this.
Always working up and down the field at outside back, fans couldn't help but notice the involvement and work rate of Maritz. Four points separate Villa and Crystal Palace at the moment, and it will take continued effort from players like her to ensure that their spots in the table standings remain the same.
Having quality players who give of themselves, of course, tends to be recognized by others. As someone who has often received the call-up for Switzerland, Maritz will once again be busy as she will help her country during the Nations League action over the next week. The Swiss are slated to play France on Friday and Iceland on Tuesday.
The upcoming Euros competition will take place in Maritz's home country, and she spoke with Ambassador Markus Leitner about the upcoming tournament:
"I think every athlete kind of dreams of a tournament in their home country... It's obviously a pressure situation, but it's like a good kind of pressure."
For an event that will take place from July 2 until July 27, Maritz appeared excited to play in front of her home fans and support, not taking too much of the potential added weight of wanting to do well in her native Switzerland. She will no doubt look to help her side go far and win it all. Assuming she plays as well as she has for the Aston Villa Women, that will be a strong possibility with the favorable atmosphere boost.
