Thursday night has brought a media exclusive reporting that a new Newcastle United offer has been made for Anthony Elanga, with a final agreement said to be very close.
The Mail report than an improved bid of £55m has been made by United.
This follows an earlier reported offer of £45m that Nottingham Forest turned down last month.
With pre-season starting next week, this would be a massive boost if Eddie Howe can land one of his long-term targets.
Newcastle United originally had an Anthony Elanga offer turned down on deadline day in the summer 2024 transfer window, though that £45m in total offer had included Miguel Almiron as part of it.
The Mail say that their information is that this new £55m offer means that the two clubs are on the verge of agreeing a deal.
The report adds that personal terms are not expected to be a problem and that the only possible issue could be if any other clubs also come in with offers, with Aston Villa claimed to be interested in Elanga.
