Arda Guler has been one of the biggest beneficiaries of the managerial change at Real Madrid. From being a marginalised player under Carlo Ancelotti, the 20-year-old starlet has become a regular starter with Xabi Alonso at the helm.
Finding himself in a new role in midfield, the Turkish international has started all three of Real Madrid’s La Liga games this season and has made the most of his chances as well.
While Guler may currently be a regular starter in the early parts of the season, the scenario could swiftly change once Jude Bellingham returns after recovering from his shoulder surgery.
After all, with Fede Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni being undisputed starters, and Bellingham expected to operate in a deeper midfield role means Guler will likely have to fight for a spot with new signing Franco Mastantuono on the right wing.
However, according to The Athletic’s Mario Cortegana, Guler has already been informed that the signing of Mastantuono this summer will not affect his role or prominence within Alonso’s Real Madrid setup.

Since Alonso took over in June, Guler is the fifth-most utilised player by the manager between the FIFA Club World Cup and La Liga, during which he has scored twice and assisted three goals.
Alonso rates the Turkish prodigy very highly and even held an interest in signing him while he was still in charge at Bayer Leverkusen. As such, he considers the youngster a key part of his setup going forward.
Guler, for his part, is understood to be delighted at the change in his situation at Real Madrid, compared to how things were under Ancelotti in his first two seasons.
Nevertheless, despite the positive start, the 20-year-old starlet knows that he has a challenge to maintain this level of performances in order to keep his place in the team, especially once Bellingham recovers.
