Barcelona midfielder Pedri Gonzalez continues to show why he is one of the most exceptional midfielders.
“He’s a special player,” Hansi Flick said after Barcelona’s 2-1 win against Real Sociedad, and his performance proved that statement true.
The young Spaniard has become the driving force in Barcelona’s midfield, dictating the tempo of the game while creating opportunities in tight spaces that few players can exploit.
This season, Pedri has completed an astonishing 701 passes in La Liga, making him the league’s top passer by a wide margin.
To put that in context, Real Madrid’s Alvaro Carreras, second on the list, has completed 490 passes.
Such a gap highlights the midfielder’s unmatched ability to keep Barcelona in control, constantly linking defence and attack with precision.
He has started every league match so far, as well as the Champions League clash against Newcastle United, demonstrating Flick’s trust in his consistency and influence on the team.

Pedri’s brilliance was on full display against Real Sociedad. In 90 minutes on the pitch, he completed 105 passes, the most by any player in the game, and created two scoring chances.
He also completed all four of his dribbles, delivered every cross with perfect accuracy, and won both tackles he attempted.
Defensively, he made two clearances, recovered possession seven times, and won eight of his fourteen duels while adding four other defensive contributions.
Even though he was substituted in the final moments, the crowd gave him a standing ovation, celebrating his control, vision, and tireless work rate.
Pedri’s value goes beyond numbers. His ability to orchestrate play, exploit space, and maintain possession under pressure makes him indispensable.
He combines creativity with discipline, constantly contributing both offensively and defensively.
Under Flick, Pedri has become the engine of Barcelona, providing balance, driving the team forward, and ensuring the squad remains dominant in the middle of the park.
