The 18-year-old cemented himself as one of the most promising youngsters in Carrington. In addition to his skill set, the young man also distinguishes himself with his ‘incredibly classy’ demeanour. In a U15 game against Spurs in 2022, he refused to take a spot-kick, which he felt was unfair towards the opponent, thus passing the ball straight to the goalkeeper.
In April 2025, Ibragimov penned the first professional contract of his career after turning 17. Man Utd also showcased the trust they have in the winger by promoting him from the U18 to the U21 squad, although he continues to feature for Darren Fletcher’s academy team.
The youngster has also acquired English citizenship during his stay in Manchester, and has gone on to represent England at the U15 and U16 levels.
On Tuesday, the Russian FA caused a stir by naming Ibragimov as part of the squad for their upcoming friendly against Egypt on May 28.
Since 2022, the gigantic nation has been banned from taking part in any FIFA or UEFA competitions due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. Therefore, the Daily Mail journalist Nathan Salt described it as a ‘complicated’ call-up.

Salt added that Man Utd have yet to be notified, but Ibragimov’s name has indeed appeared on the Russian FA’s website.
With Russia banned from all international tournaments, representing his country of birth might not be such an enticing prospect for Ibragimov, at least as things stand at the moment.
Moreover, even if the Russians return to competitive action, the chances of them achieving international glory or going far in international tournaments remain modest compared to England.
But while playing for the Three Lions might be more appealing to the youngster, earning a call-up, let alone at the senior level, remains a daunting task amidst the plethora of talent on the English shores.
Therefore, Russia could represent an easier and quicker path towards international football for Ibragimov. Nevertheless, it should be remembered that once a player makes his debut on the senior level, he can no longer switch allegiance.
