Iñigo Pérez to receive Banquillo de Oro days after taking Villarreal job | OneFootball

Iñigo Pérez will receive the Banquillo de Oro on Saturday 6 June, awarded by the Spanish federation’s coaches’ committee, days after being unveiled as Villarreal’s new head coach.

The federation said in a statement that the panel assessed coaches on their 2025-26 results as well as behaviour, respect and the transmission of values. The gala will take place at the Meliá Castilla hotel in Madrid.

Villarreal confirmed his three-year contract on Monday, with the presentation following on Tuesday at the Estadio de la Cerámica. He made his senior coaching debut with Rayo Vallecano in February 2024.

Over two and a half seasons, he guided Rayo to this season’s UEFA Europa Conference League final. The Madrid club also finished eighth in LaLiga EA Sports.

That return has earned him the move to a Villarreal side who will play in the Champions League in 2026/27 after ending the campaign third.

At his unveiling, Pérez reflected that he enjoyed his spell at Rayo, taking over mid-season, managing a full league programme and balancing Europe with domestic duties, experiences he believes prepare him for the Villarreal challenge.

The event will also honour the season’s best coaches across the men’s and women’s top flights in football, futsal and beach soccer, plus the second tiers and each group of Primera and Segunda Federación. Spanish European title winners will be recognised, including Luis Enrique Martínez, men’s Champions League with PSG, Pere Romeu, women’s Champions League with Barcelona, Unai Emery, men’s Europa League with Aston Villa, and Álvaro López, Youth League with Real Madrid.
