At a time when there were already question marks over Real Madrid’s form, the club suffered another major blow in the form of Eder Militao’s injury.

The Brazilian international has picked up a knock during the November international break and could be out for a period of up to two weeks.

This comes at the worst possible time for Real Madrid, especially with Antonio Rudiger still not available.

Real Madrid, therefore, will be hoping for Militao to return to action as soon as possible ahead of a daunting schedule that has Xabi Alonso worried.

Militao eyeing a return vs Man City

According to AS, the primary objective for Real Madrid is to have Militao back at 100% fitness for the heavyweight Champions League clash against Manchester City at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The diagnosis conducted after the injury has confirmed a muscle injury in the adductor magnus of the right leg.

While not a severe tear, it is a significant setback that will keep the Brazilian out of at least four crucial away matches: Elche, Olympiacos, Girona, and Athletic Club.

Real Madrid hope he might receive some playing time against Celta Vigo in the fifth match of this block to regain rhythm, but the priority is the Manchester City game.

Alonso views Militao’s presence as non-negotiable to recover from recent defeats and secure a result against the English heavyweights.

Till the time Militao is out, Raul Asencio is expected to take up a more prominent role in central defence alongside Dean Huijsen. David Alaba, after all, has not played much under Alonso.

Good news for Real Madrid is that Rudiger is nearing his recovery, meaning the German international could soon be available at the manager’s disposal.
