Real Madrid are back in action in the UEFA Champions League later this week as they host Juventus at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Leading up to the match, Xabi Alonso has been handed a welcome boost as Trent Alexander-Arnold is in contention to make a comeback from injury against the Bianconeri.

While the likes of Dean Huijsen, Dani Carvajal, and Dani Ceballos might have to wait until the weekend El Clasico, Real Madrid could welcome another player back from injury this midweek.

Ferland Mendy has chances to return to the squad

Indeed, according to journalist Miguel Angel Diaz of COPE, Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy has a chance to return to the squad for the midweek fixture against Juventus.

If so, it will mark the Frenchman’s return to the squad after six months out and his first-ever call-up under the management of Alonso.

Mendy has been out of action since late April, when he suffered an injury only minutes into the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona.

Having undergone surgery, the 30-year-old Frenchman was expected to be back in three months or so, but his recovery has taken much longer than anticipated.

Mendy, though, finally resumed training with the rest of the group earlier this month, and as such, there is a chance he could make it to the squad for the Juventus game.

However, the injury-prone defender will find it hard to get minutes under Alonso, considering that Alvaro Carreras has firmly established himself as the starting left-back for Real Madrid, with Fran Garcia acting as his deputy.

Nonetheless, having the experienced Mendy back at his disposal will be a welcome development for Alonso.
