An insight into the plans of the coaching staff at La Liga giants Real Madrid for the heart of the club’s backline in their return to action post-international break has on Saturday been provided.

This, of course, comes amid nothing short of a crisis at centre-half in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.

Los Blancos have been ravaged by injuries over recent weeks, with the likes of Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga and Aurélien Tchouaméni condemned to respective spells on the sidelines.

At the back, meanwhile, long-term absentee David Alaba has been joined on the treatment table by Éder Militão, as well as youngsters Joan Martínez and Jacobo Ramón.

Safe to say, then, that the Real coaching staff will have some work to do in piecing together a reliable central defensive partnership for the club’s next outing.

The Spanish champions are primed to return to action on the back of the international break next weekend, in a La Liga meeting with Real Sociedad.

And, according to Diario AS, the plan of Carlo Ancelotti and co, as things stand, is to pair Antonio Rüdiger with Jesús Vallejo.

Stopper Vallejo, following his return to base in Madrid over the summer, has since also been sidelined for much of the term to date.

Evidently now considered fit enough to take to the pitch, though, he is expected to be afforded his season debut at Anoeta in a week’s time.
