West Ham 3 Newcastle 1 – Sunday 2 November 2025 2pm
Instant fan/writer reaction from some of our regular contributors on The Mag.
‘Well, didn’t see this performance coming.
We got such a great start from Murphy’s strike that makes what came after that so hard to believe.
I don’t think there is one player you could say played to their usual level, add to that the lethargy across the team meant we didn’t deserve to take anything from the game.
The own goal and their third goal just sums everything up.
A day to forgot as a travelling fan, let’s hope for MUCH better on Wednesday…’
‘A dismal display at the London Stadium.
Our away form will cost us if we don’t sort it soon.
Several of our players had their worst game of the season and at times we looked like a group of lads that just met for the first time for a kick about in the park.
Without trying to deflect, it was frustrating that the goal that put us behind was in the 5th minute of added time.
Anybody with eyes could see it wasn’t a penalty on the second viewing. Why VAR couldn’t sort it quicker and without sending the ref to the screen, I have no idea.
We were deservedly beaten though and our brief winning streak abruptly ended.’
GToon:
‘That was a disgrace.
We played a bottom team and were outplayed from start to finish.
Can’t even control the ball.
Some abysmal individual performances but that was really the worst I’ve seen us for a long long time.’
Matt Busby said…:
‘What an abjectly terrible performance.
I can’t take anything positive out of it, Murphy’s goal aside, a lovely finish that had us ahead inside 5 minutes, after which it totally unravelled, their calamitous third perfectly summing up such a dreadful afternoon.
I’m off to do some ironing. Roll on Bilbao.’
David Punton:
‘Really bad. A shocker. So poor.
Every now and again you get to say ‘typical Newcastle’. Today is one of them.
A struggling West Ham side who ain’t won at home since February – so naturally we hand them a 3-1 win, and all after having taken the lead.
Not a good day for us at all. Players and manager.
Could make an excuse that West Ham didn’t have to play midweek, but that’s flimsy.
We are a better side than this, right?
The loss leaves us slumped in mid table.’
Jamie Smith:
‘No way of sugar coating this.
A shocking, unacceptable performance that has turned the away form from being patchy into a real issue.
West Ham were there for the taking at one nil but that horrendous habit of misplaced passes and lack of attacking desire contributed to a dismal defeat that for me is thé worst result since…well, since losing to West Ham at home last year.
Really really poor, Thiaw the only one to emerge with any credit for me.’
Greg McPeake:
‘Poor performance all round.
Can not quite believe we let this poor West Ham team win all over the park.
One of those horrible games that are best forgotten.
Struggling to understand why I bothered to get a ticket sat amongst those East end numpties.
We can’t be any worse than this.
Bring on the next game and hopefully we can exorcise this awful game.’
