Inter didn’t manage to persuade Como to let Cesc Fabregas go and will turn to Christian Chivu to succeed Simone Inzaghi in their dugout. He has limited coaching experience in Serie A but is very familiar with the team.

The Lariani president issued a statement to Radio Sportiva, denying the Nerazzurri’s request to negotiate with their boss. The Scudetto runners-up quickly reached out to Parma to inquire about the Romanian gaffer’s availability, receiving the go-ahead, Gianluca Di Marzio informs. He was in talks to extend his contract after taking over mid-season.

Chivu spent seven years at Inter as a player and six more as a youth coach. He won the Primavera championship once in his three seasons at the helm. He avoided relegation at Parma, notching 3 win, 7 draws, and 3 losses in 13 matches. He’ll sign a two-year contract on Friday, La Gazzetta dello Sport relays.

Our Take on Inter and Chivu

Como have surely created lofty expectations with their numerous denials. Perhaps they should have been clearer with Fabregas beforehand because he surely flirted with a lot of teams while never going all the way.

It’s quite striking that such a high-level management was unprepared for Inzaghi’s departure despite all the chatter. It’s unclear why they were adamant about hiring an up-and-comer, disregarding a bunch of veterans who would have been perfectly suited to lead an experienced and fully formed squad that doesn’t need anything fancy to be successful. His past is a bonus, but he’s very raw. His style is a lot more defensive-minded and passive than his predecessor’s. That’s not necessarily a negative, though.
