Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma could make a shock return to Serie A to join Milan’s bitter rivals Inter. According to Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Filippo Conticello, the Italy international is open to signing for the Nerazzurri despite his past ties with the other San Siro club.
Donnarumma graduated from Milan’s youth academy before making his senior debut for the Rossoneri in 2015. However, he left the club in 2021 after refusing to renew his contract, signing a lucrative deal at the Parc des Princes until 2026.
Since Les Parisiens have yet to offer him fresh terms, Donnarumma could leave the club in the next 16 months, with Inter emerging as the frontrunners to secure his signature. Meanwhile, the 26-year-old would embrace a return to his homeland.
“A certain San Siro fan base would like me here…? I’m very pleased, I’m happy,” Donnarumma said after Italy’s 2-1 loss to Germany in Thursday’s UEFA Nations League encounter. His statement tickled the imagination of Inter fans, fueling growing transfer rumors.
Meanwhile, Simone Inzaghi continues to trust Yann Sommer. However, the Swiss star is in the autumn of his career, meaning Inter will need to dive back into the market for a sustainable long-term option.
Despite Josep Martinez’s arrival from Genoa last summer, there’s a feeling they’d appreciate a more experienced alternative. There’s no doubt Gianluigi Donnarumma would be a massive coup for Inter, though it’d likely provoke more anger from the Milan faithful.
