Inter Miami have acquired Argentine midfielder David Ayala from Portland Timbers via trade. The club said in a statement that the 23-year-old joins under MLS's U22 Initiative and is contracted through the end of the 2026 season.

Born in Berazategui, Ayala came through Estudiantes' academy and made his professional debut in December 2019 aged 17, becoming the club's third-youngest debutant. He went on to make 33 appearances in Argentina's Primera División before moving to MLS in 2022.

With Portland, he made 22 appearances across league and cup in his first season and grew into a key midfield contributor. By the end of 2025 he had 98 appearances, four goals and two assists in all competitions.

At Inter Miami he will reunite with familiar faces. He played alongside recently signed defender Facundo Mura three times for Estudiantes in 2020, and once with head coach Javier Mascherano during the latter's final professional season.

Internationally, Ayala has represented Argentina at multiple youth levels. He was part of the squad that won the 2019 South American U-17 Championship, then featured at the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
