On Thursday night, during a friendly match held in Puerto Rico between Inter Miami and Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle (2-1), a rather bizarre incident unfolded. Lionel Messi was sent crashing to the ground.

In the 88th minute, several fans stormed the pitch to get close to reigning world champion Lionel Messi. While one managed to snap a selfie, another hugged Messi, only for a security guard to tackle the fan—bringing the Argentine superstar down as well.

Since then, the video has gone viral online. This was not the only unusual moment in a friendly originally scheduled for February 13, but postponed due to the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner's injury. The match was also delayed by an hour because of a kit issue: both teams showed up in black jerseys before kick-off, and ultimately all 22 players took to the field in the same color shirts.
