Piotr Zielinski wrote his name into Serie A history on Friday night, becoming the highest-scoring Polish player in the competition’s history with his 50th league goal, a long-range effort that sealed Inter Milan’s 3-0 victory over Cagliari.
The milestone arrived with Zielinski firing home a high-quality finish to make the game safe and claim his place in the record books, as per L’Interista.
Furthermore, the goal came against Cagliari, one of his favourite opponents. He has now scored four times against the Sardinians across his career.
Indeed, the Poland international has rediscovered his best form in his second season at Inter under Cristian Chivu.
After a more understated debut campaign, Chivu has placed Zielinski back at the centre of his project, and the results are clear.
His fitness has returned, his consistency has improved and his ability to contribute both in build-up play and in attacking runs has been a genuine asset in the title run-in.
Therefore, his six Serie A goals this season bring him within touching distance of his personal best of eight.
Indeed, set during the 2020/21 campaign at Napoli.
The Scudetto is approaching. And Zielinski, now a piece of Italian football history, is back to being one of Inter’s most important players.
