Inter Milan had an evening to forget against Parma in Serie A. Having led 2-0 at halftime, the Nerazzurri threw away their advantage, having to settle for a point.

And as if that were not a bitter enough pill to swallow, there was also an injury concern for Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni.

Bastoni started this evening’s match at the Stadio Ennio Tardini. However, he had to come off as a substitute at halftime.

This was an enforced change due to injury, rather than a tactical switch.

There did not look to be too serious of a problem for Bastoni, who was able to watch the second half with his teammates from the bench.

However, the 25-year-old did have to apply ice to his knee. Therefore, there was clearly a fitness worry, even if only a precaution.

The timing of Bastoni’s injury scare is particularly problematic for Inter.

In just three days’ time, the Nerazzurri will take on Bayern Munich in the first leg of a Champions League quarterfinal tie.

And Inter will certainly want a key player like Alessandro Bastoni available for that match.

Nerazzurri assistant coach Massimiliano Farris did have a reassuring update, though. “With so many matches, an ice pack was necessary,” he explained.

“It didn’t seem like it was something to worry about,” he continued. “He’s one of the players who really had to push to play.”

Then, the Inter assistant coach declared “let’s put this draw behind us.”

The Nerazzurri must “have confidence in the future, and focus on Bayern Munich.”

“We deserved to make it this far,” Farris said of the Champions League quarterfinals. “Not we’ll try to do the best that we can.”

Meanwhile, Farris admitted that the team “will have to analyze” their second half collapse this evening.

“In the first half we were in control. But we took a risk on the two chances that we conceded, one on the orientation of the goalkeeper, and the other losing the ball.”

“However, we did what we had to do. We scored two goals.”

“But we were coming off the back of a derby,” noted Farris. “And with so many matches, it’s not always possible to find the spirit to get a match over the line.”

“All results are very important. But the team just didn’t have the mental and physical energy.”

Farris rued that “we shouldn’t have given Parma the chance to get back into the match.”

“The proof is in the fact that once we got ourself into the that situation, the team threw themselves forward again right away.”

“But against a team as dangerous in attack as Parma, we only conceded one chance on the counterattack after that,” he added.
