Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi feels that his team’s Champions League victory over Arsenal was “massive considering the opposition.”
The Nerazzurri coach spoke to InterTV after the 1-0 victory, via FCInterNews.
Inter won their third straight match in the Champions League yesterday.
Last month, they had beaten Red Star Belgrade 4-0, and then needed a last-minute goal to get a victory away to Swiss side Young Boys.
These came after a goalless draw away to Manchester City in Inter’s first match of the season in the competition.
And while the wins against Red Star and particularly Young Boys were hardly easy for Inter, facing a team as strong as Arsenal was certainly not the same.
The Gunner posed the same kind of challenge for Inter that City did on opening day.
The two Premier League giants are, along with Inter and a few other teams, among the realistic contenders to win the Champions League this season.
Therefore, Inter sent a big message with their result yesterday evening.
“It was a team win. It was very deliberate, against an absolutely top class opponent.”
“The team defended together. Particularly on set pieces, we allowed more than we expected to.”
And Inzaghi also gave his thoughts on the squad rotation that he employed yesterday. “I have 23 starters,” he made clear.
“I really think that’s the case. In the last few matches we haven’t been able to make as many changes due to some injury problems, but now I have everyone I can count on.”
Of his team’s defensive record with four clean sheets from four matches in the Champions League, Inzaghi said that “It’s excellent considering we’ve faced teams like City and Arsenal.”
“We know how important goal difference could be. Now we hope to have two great matches against the two German teams.”
