Simone Inzaghi admits he’s “starting to get angry” after his side weren’t awarded a penalty in today’s derby clash between AC Milan and Inter Milan.
The Nerazzurri coach fumed after the match, speaking to DAZN via FCInterNews. He argued that this is the “third or fourth” time a decision hasn’t gone the Nerazzurri’s way, and said he feels there’s a double standard.
In the end, Inter and Milan had to settle for a point apiece.
It was a dramatic finale which saw Nerazzurri defender Stefan de Vrij score in stoppage time to salvage a result.
But prior to that, Inter had been knocking on the door for all of the second half.
Inter hit the post on three occasions. There were innumerable crosses and corner kicks into the box.
And then there was also a big penalty appeal from the Nerazzurri.
This came after Inter striker Marcus Thuram was through on goal, in a foot race with Milan defender Strahinja Pavlovic.
Thuram was able to get himself between Pavlovic and the ball. But the Serbian former Red Bull Salzburg defender bundled him over in the penalty area.
In the meantime, Milan defender Theo Hernandez had also gotten back to cover. The Frenchman slid in to clear the ball from danger.
Referee Daniele Chiffi did not give a penalty for the incident.
However, subsequent replays appeared to show a clear trip on Thuram by Pavlovic.
After the match, Simone Inzaghi said that “I don’t feel like talking about” the officiating.
“Because it’s a broad discussion.”

“But we’re coming into this after the match against Bologna, the final in Riyadh [against AC Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana.]”
“Then, this match,” Inzaghi fumed.
“I hadn’t noticed it on the pitch. But then I watched it back.”
“This is not what the directives are,” he said of the decision by VAR not to advise referee Daniele Chiffi to have another look at the incident between Thuram and Pavlovic.
“Ok, so the referee was unsighted. But then whoever’s sitting in the VAR room looking at it can’t help but tell the referee to have another look in an incident like this.”
Inzaghi added, “It can happen, everyone makes mistakes.”
“But this is starting to be the fourth or fifth time. I’ve seen them make legal broadcasts about fouls on Inter, now the third or fourth time I’m starting to get angry.”
Of the match against Milan, Inzaghi insisted that “I can only applaud my team.”
“Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get beyond the key moments. Three shots that hit the post, three goals disallowed, and a sensational decision not to give a penalty.”
“But despite that, we managed to find the equalizer.”
Meanwhile, Inzaghi also praised Nicola Zalewski for grabbing an assist on his Inter debut.
“He came on and did well,” the Inter coach said of the Polish international. “He has quality, and we were lacking a player like him.”
“I’m happy,” he added. “This morning he was ready right away. He’ll give us a hand.”
Inzaghi admitted that “In the first half we didn’t want to concede counterattacks, but then one cost us a goal.”
“We could have moved the ball better. But it’s still a derby, and it’s our seventeenth match in less than two months.”
