Inter Milan’s Serie A win over Lecce was virtually the diametrical opposite of their city rivals AC Milan’s defeat at the hands of Parma.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

Inter and Milan were in a similar boat heading into this weekend.

Both the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri had had to settle for 2-2 draws in their opening matches. They’d faced tough opposition in the form of Genoa and Torino respectively.

In Lecce and newly-promoted Parma, however, things looked like they could get easier. At least on paper.

But the reality proved to be quite different for Milan.

Inter Secure Convincing Win Over Lecce After Milan Horror-Show Vs Parma

Milan travelled to Emilia-Romagna to face Parma, back in Serie A for the first time since 2021.

And it was a nightmare for coach Paulo Fonseca in his second match as Rossoneri boss.

Milan looked out of balance, particularly defensively.

The Rossoneri’s biggest struggles came in defending the danger that Parma posed on the counterattack.

Fonseca’s team committed to an aggressive high line without the ball, But they failed to either stop Parma from playing the ball, or slow down their most dangerous attacking players.

From Inter, on the other hand, it was quite the opposite.

One of the biggest improvements that the Nerazzurri have made throughout Simone Inzaghi’s tenure as coach has been in defending counterattacks.

Lecce are a team with pace and technical quality in attack. But there was little evidence of that against Inter yesterday.

The Nerazzurri always seemed to have a spare man to slow down Lecce’s attempts to counterattack.

This meant that Inter were able to put pressure on the Giallorossi goal without there being too much risk of conceding at the other end.

It may not have been the most flashy performance or emphatic scoreline from the Nerazzurri.

But it did not need to be. Three points was the sole priority for Inter after an early slip-up in their opener away in Genoa.

And the horror-show that Inter’s city rivals Milan suffered in Parma showed how wrong things can go.
