Inter Milan got the job done against Monza in Serie A yesterday in a dramatic comeback, but the signs of decline are there to be seen.

In the end, Inter Milan weren’t going to let Monza spoil their evening yesterday.

The Nerazzurri did well to react to a shock 2-0 deficit against a team who have proven something of a bogey side for them over the last few seasons.

Inter piled on the pressure and chances both before and after the Brianzoli’s two clinical counterattacking goals.

And eventually those told. Inter’s quality, organization, and motivation delivered a memorable 3-2 comeback victory.

The manner in which Inter Milan won yesterday’s thriller at the San Siro had a feel-good factor to it.

But in the view of the Gazzetta, the fact that the Nerazzurri needed such a wild comeback was a problem in and of itself.

The two goals that Inter conceded were of the kind that they have been conceding too often this season.

Perhaps Inter’s biggest problem this campaign has been switching off when defending counterattacks. Both a certain lack of physicality and pace, and a sense of complacency in possession have been big issues.

Both were on show yesterday. And perhaps that should not have been a surprise, considering Inter had an average age pushing in their starting eleven.

Inter were able to overcome all those problems yesterday. They showed that they can turn the style on – and show the grit and determination necessary – when they need to.

But the Nerazzurri’s ability to be at their best for ninety minutes seems to be vanishing.
