Simone Inzaghi has praised Inter Milan’s risk-averse performance in Monday’s 2-0 home victory against minnows Como.

During his post-game interview with DAZN via FCInterNews, Inzaghi also hailed his Lariani counterpart, Cesc Fabregas.

Fabregas sang praises about the 48-year-old manager before the game, and the Inter boss returned the compliment.

“His words are very appreciated, and I reciprocated because he’s doing excellent work,” Inzaghi said.

“He started recently and immediately won Serie B, which is no small feat, and he’s playing excellent football.

“He deserves compliments. Como play good football and came here to San Siro in a proactive way, not to speculate.

“They deserve praise because it’s not easy to come here and play like that against Inter.”

Despite Como’s valiant attempt to avoid defeat, Carlos Augusto and Marcus Thuram inspired Inter to a precious victory.

However, Inzaghi complimented the newcomers’ approach.

“First of all, compliments go to Como because they came here to play a game with personality at San Siro.

“We found a well-organized team with excellent playing principles; they ran a lot.”

“In the second half, we changed gear, in the first half, even though the pitch didn’t help,” Inzaghi continued.

“We weren’t the usual team and made some problematic clearances, partly due to Como’s pressure, which was never simple.

“But we played like a mature team, risking almost nothing and striking at the right moment.”

Star wingback Federico Dimarco had a rare night off.

Frustration piled up toward the end of the first half, with Inzaghi visibly annoyed by a lack of services from the left flank.

“Clearly, in the first half, we did too little on the left, where we’re usually very good.

“But Como also deserves credit, as I said before.

“At halftime, we talked and saw that we could speed up the play, so we did it from one side to the other.

“We came out with more quality and improved.”

Inzaghi Opens Up on Thu-La Partnership

He credited Thuram for shouldering the scoring burden during Lautaro Martinez’s underwhelming run of form.

“Lauti is our captain, and it makes news when a player like him hasn’t scored in eight matches,” Inzaghi said.

“But he has to keep working the way he is, with confidence. He’s getting chances, and he’ll start scoring again.

“I’ll have to review the game, but I’ve already watched the Lazio match, and Lautaro and Thuram had a fantastic performance.

“I’m also thinking about Thursday’s match and the performance of Arnautovic and Taremi, who did the same.

“We ask a lot from our attackers, and it’s normal that sometimes they lose sharpness, but we need to keep going like this and keep winning.

“Of course, I know what it’s like for an attacker not to score, especially for someone like him.

“But he needs to stay calm, knowing that his team is continuing to win and that he has the support of everyone, from the fans to the club.

“He’ll break the drought very soon.”

In addition to wishing everyone a Merry Christmas, Inzaghi admitted he expected Atalanta and Napoli to challenge Inter this season.

“Merry Christmas and happy holidays to everyone.”

As for Atalanta and Napoli, the Scudetto-winning manager said: “I expected both of them.

“I already said back in July that I was expecting a very exciting and more difficult season than the last two because everyone strengthened their teams.”
