Bologna forward Santiago Castro has confirmed that he was contacted by Simone Inzaghi about a possible move to Al Hilal, while also addressing transfer rumours linking him with Inter, Chelsea, and Juventus.

“Yes, they called me – it’s true,” Castro said when asked about reports of contact from Al Hilal.

However, the forward revealed he turned down Simone Inzaghi’s side in favour of staying in Bologna.

“But I wanted to stay here to continue growing. From Bologna, I want to return to the national team and, hopefully, live my dream of playing at the World Cup.”

The 21-year-old striker, who joined Bologna in January 2024, has often been compared to Lautaro, but he insists he’s focused on his own path.

“The comparisons are an honour,” he said.

“Lautaro is a great player. I’ve listened to them, accepted them, but I want to be myself.”

Castro also reaffirmed his happiness in Bologna, despite interest from bigger clubs.

“I’ve always focused on Bologna,” he added.

“I’m happy here. In this team, you enjoy playing football – and when you have fun, everything comes easier.”

Castro, who has Argentine roots and Italian ancestry, reiterated his desire to keep representing Argentina.

He said his call-up for the Albiceleste remains both a dream and an objective.
