Cristian Chivu has addressed the growing speculation surrounding Alessandro Bastoni, as Barcelona continue to monitor the defender’s situation ahead of the summer transfer window.

With interest from Barcelona intensifying in recent weeks, the Inter Milan manager was asked directly about Bastoni’s future and whether there is any pressure on the player to consider a move away from Italy.

Chivu made it clear that his role is not to influence such decisions, but rather to ensure the player remains focused and confident.

“Do they advise Bastoni to leave Italy? I must give him serenity and trust, to him as to the others.

“I can’t control his future, what he wants to do. I know he is very happy at Inter and to be part of this wonderful group,” he began explaining.

Asking for total commitment

Chivu emphasised that his priority is the player’s commitment on the pitch, rather than external rumours.

He brought to light Bastoni’s professionalism and consistent effort, regardless of the uncertainty surrounding his future.

“He always gave 100%. I’m interested in that.

“Each of us is responsible for the decisions we make. As long as he is here, he will give more than 100% for us.

“Whether it’s for 2 months or 2 years, I can’t condition his choices. I would be happy if he stayed, but I would be happy to stay too,” he explained.

The Inter coach also acknowledged the unpredictable nature of football, especially when it comes to transfers and long-term planning.

He made it clear that the final decision will rest entirely with the player, while also expressing confidence in Bastoni’s judgement.

“The uncertainties in the world of football, for a coach, are these.

“He will decide, but he has proven it in recent years: he knows how to make the right decisions.

“Regardless of what he does, world football will always enjoy a high-quality player,” he concluded.
